Ruaa Centre Hosts Panel Discussion on Environmental and Social Impacts of Red Sea Oil Spill of Rubymar

On Thursday, Ruaa Centre for Strategic Studies, Consulting and Training, organized a panel discussion titled "Environmental and Social Impacts of the Red Sea  Rubymar Oil Spill." The event, attended by environmental experts, academics, journalists and activists, aimed to highlight the far-reaching consequences of the Red Sea oil spill.

Dr. Jacqueline Mansour Al-Batani, Ruaa Centre's Director, emphasized the importance of addressing the environmental and social impacts of the spill. She noted the catastrophic effects on marine ecosystems, local communities and biodiversity.

The discussion, moderated by Dr. Jamal Bawzir, covered topics including:Oil and chemical spills' effects on marine life and coastal ecosystems, short- and long-term environmental consequences, and water pollution and impacts on marine resources.   the discussion highlighted  the economic and social effects on local communities, fishermen and coastal residents and challenges faced by affected communities. it also called on the need for support and assistance.

The discussion concluded with recommendations to address environmental and social challenges, promote environmental awareness and provide sustainable solutions for affected communities.

It concluded to a number of key recommendations such as

  1. Enhance environmental monitoring and regulation.
    2. Support affected communities through economic empowerment.
    3. Promote sustainable fishing practices.
    4. Develop emergency response plans.
    5. Foster international cooperation for marine conservation.

This work is part of Ruaa Centre diligent efforts for conservation of environment and especially biodiversity.
