Participants in the course “Community Committees: Towards a Green Economy and Sustainable Development” carried out a field activity on the fourth day of the programme, implementing an environmental initiative at Fuqm Coast in Al-Buraiqa District, the capital Aden. The initiative involved cleaning the coastline of waste and plastic debris.

The initiative forms part of the course’s practical activities, organised by Ruaa Centre for Strategic Studies, Consulting and Training, with the support of the Political Development Forum and the German Berghof Foundation, and funded by the Kingdom of the Netherlands. It aims to strengthen the practical skills of community committee leaders and to embed concepts of environmental responsibility and voluntary community action.

A number of community committee leaders took part in the campaign, during which solid waste was removed and the coastal strip was cleaned, reflecting the importance of preserving the marine environment, reducing pollution, and raising community awareness of the need to protect coastlines as a vital environmental and economic resource.

Dr Jaklin Mansour Al-Battani, Head of Ruaa Centre for Strategic Studies, Consulting and Training, stated that the field activity to clean Fuqm Coast represents a practical embodiment of the course objectives, which seek to transfer the concepts of the green economy and sustainable development from a theoretical framework into tangible practices that serve both the community and the environment.

She added that empowering Community committees to lead effective environmental initiatives enhances their role as key partners in protecting natural resources, reaffirming the Centre’s commitment to continuing training programmes and field initiatives that raise environmental awareness and build the capacities of community leaders, in support of the path towards sustainable development in the capital Aden.

The course is scheduled to continue its remaining activities tomorrow, including discussion and evaluation sessions, leading up to its conclusion.
