Ruaa Centre for Strategic Studies, Consulting and Training launched on Sunday a training course entitled “Community Committees: Towards a Green Economy and Sustainable Development”, with the support of the Political Development Forum and the German Berghof Foundation, and funding from the Kingdom of the Netherlands.

At the opening session, Dr Jaklin Mansour Al-Battani, Head of Ruaa Centre, delivered a welcoming address to attendees and participants, emphasising the importance of the course in strengthening the role of community committees in promoting green economy concepts and contributing to the achievement of sustainable development at the local level.

Dr Al-Battani highlighted that building the capacities of community committees is a fundamental step in addressing environmental and developmental challenges, as well as in enhancing community partnerships to protect the environment and improve livelihoods.

For his part, Brigadier Ali Al-Namri, Head of the Community Committees in the Capital Aden, stated that the course represents a qualitative addition for community committee leaders and contributes to raising awareness of the importance of organised community action in serving environmental and development issues.

On the first day of the course, Dr Jamal Bawazir, Head of the Environmental Protection Unit at the Centre and an environmental expert, delivered training sessions explaining the concepts of the green economy, the role of community committees in achieving sustainable development, and the key environmental challenges along with ways to address them.

The training course, which runs for five consecutive days, brings together a number of community committee leaders from the districts of the Capital Aden and includes theoretical lectures and practical activities aimed at enhancing participants’ capacities.
