Installation of Awareness Billboard at the Main Entrance of Al-Buraiqa District under the “Save Sea Turtles in the Gulf of Aden” Project

Today, a new awareness billboard was installed at the main entrance of Al-Buraiqa district, as part of the activities of the “Save Sea Turtles in the Gulf of Aden” project, supported by the Global Environment Facility (GEF) and the Small Grants Projects (SGP), and implemented by Ruaa Center for Strategic Studies, Consulting, and Training.

Dr. Jaklin Mansour Al-Battani, Head of Ruaa Center, affirmed that installing the billboard represents an additional step in a series of field activities aimed at promoting environmental culture. She highlighted that the project seeks to instill a broad sense of social responsibility towards the protection of sea turtles through visual messages and clear guidance reaching the widest segment of the population.

Dr. Al-Battani added that the Center will continue collaborating with all local and community stakeholders to expand awareness initiatives along the coastal areas, emphasizing the significant role this plays in reducing risks to sea turtles, and called on everyone to actively participate in protecting this important marine species.

For his part, Mr. Fouad Ahmed Awad, Head of the Community Committees in Al-Buraiqa, stressed the importance of this initiative in raising awareness among visitors and residents. He confirmed that community committees will remain active partners in all activities contributing to coastal environmental protection and educating the public on the need to respect ecosystems and preserve the coasts from damage and violations.

The awareness billboard aims to raise the awareness of residents, visitors, and drivers about the importance of protecting sea turtles, safeguarding nesting sites, and minimizing practices that threaten marine life in the Gulf of Aden.

The initiative received praise from the district’s residents, who considered the billboard an important educational message that contributes to enhancing interest in protecting sea turtles and preserving the local marine environment.
