Ruaa Centre Installs Awareness Billboards in Khor Omeira to Protect Sea Turtles
As part of its ongoing efforts to protect the marine environment and promote community awareness, Ruaa Centre for Strategic Studies, Consultation, and Training installed a series of warning signs and awareness posters on Saturday in the Khor Omeira area of Lahj Governorate. The activity is part of the “Save the Sea Turtles in the Gulf of Aden” project, funded by the Global Environment Facility (GEF) and the Small Grants Programme (SGP).
The posters and brochures featured awareness messages directed at residents, fishermen, and visitors, urging them not to dispose of waste or plastic materials into the waters of the bay, and advising them to avoid disturbing sea turtles during feeding and nesting periods. The materials also included guidance on the importance of preserving ecological balance along the coast.
Dr. Jaklin Mansoor Al-Battani, head of Ruaa Centre, explained that installing these boards is a continuation of the field and awareness activities implemented by the Centre in Khor Omeira. She noted that the messages were designed in a simple and accessible way to reach all segments of society, aiming to foster positive environmental behavior among residents and visitors.
Dr. Al-Battani affirmed that Ruaa Centre will continue its efforts to implement environmental initiatives aimed at protecting sea turtles and coastal areas in the Gulf of Aden, in cooperation with relevant local and community entities.
