Aden – Ruaa Centre Media

Dr. Jaklin Mansoor Al-Batani, Head of Ruaa Centre for Strategic Studies, Consulting, and Training, met today (Tuesday) with Mr. Abdulrahim Al-Jawi, Director General of Al-Mualla District, as part of the advocacy and mobilization efforts for the “Save the Sea Turtles in the Gulf of Aden” project, implemented by the Centre with funding from the Global Environment Facility (GEF) and the Small Grants Programme (SGP).

During the meeting, the two sides discussed several issues related to the protection of sea turtles and combating illegal practices that threaten them — including monitoring and following up on restaurants that sell turtle meat — as well as coordinating awareness campaigns targeting fishermen and coastal communities.

Dr. Al-Batani presented a detailed explanation of the project’s objectives and its field and media activities, aimed at raising environmental awareness and enhancing community participation in marine life conservation.

For his part, Mr. Al-Jawi expressed strong support for the project and affirmed the local authority’s readiness in Al-Mualla to back the Centre’s efforts and facilitate the implementation of its awareness and field programmes.

The meeting concluded with agreements to strengthen cooperation between Ruaa Centre and the Al-Mualla District Administration to help protect sea turtles and preserve the ecosystem in the Gulf of Aden.
