30th September 2025

The Head of Ruaa Centre for Strategic Studies, Dr. Jaklin Mansour Al-Batani, held a meeting on Tuesday with the Director General of Al-Buraiqa District, Dr. Salah Al-Shubaji, attended by Mr. Mohammed Saad, Advisor for Marine Affairs at the General Authority for Environmental Protection. The discussion focused on the implementation of the “Save the Sea Turtles” project in the Gulf of Aden, funded by the Global Environment Facility (GEF-SPG).

The talks highlighted ways to strengthen community engagement in Al-Buraiqa District and Al-Azizi Island Reserve to protect endangered sea turtles, while also addressing measures to curb illegal fishing practices that threaten marine biodiversity.

Dr. Al-Batani emphasized that the visit aimed to rally support and advocacy from relevant authorities to ensure the project’s success. She underscored the importance of enforcing the 2006 Fisheries Law, particularly Article (56) on penalties, to deter harmful practices endangering sea turtles.

Dr. Al-Shubaji, in turn, praised the project and commended Ruaa Centre's efforts to safeguard marine life. He affirmed the district’s readiness to provide necessary support and enhance cooperation to preserve the natural wealth along Al-Buraiqa’s coastline.
