Ruaa Centre and EPA Chairman discuss implementation of “Save the Sea Turtles” project in the Gulf of Aden

Dr. Jaklin Al-Batani, head of Ruaa for Strategic Studies, met with Mr. Faisal Al-Thalabi, Chairman of the Environmental Protection Authority, to discuss joint efforts to implement the “Save the Sea Turtles” project in the Gulf of Aden funded by GEF-SPG.
The meeting focused on activating management plans for the Al-Azizi and Khor Umairah reserves to safeguard marine life and protect critical feeding and nesting habitats of sea turtles. The two sides also emphasized the need to regulate restaurants and curb the illegal trade of endangered turtles.
Furthermore, the discussions highlighted the importance of raising awareness among security forces and relevant authorities on environmental laws and penalties, in addition to strengthening the role of local organizations involved in turtle conservation. These measures aim to reinforce national efforts to protect biodiversity and preserve marine resources.
