In a significant step for marine conservation, Ruaa Centre for Strategic Studies, Consultations, and Training today announced the launch of a major new environmental initiative, "Save the Sea Turtles" project, aimed at protecting endangered sea turtle populations in the Gulf of Aden.

The announcement was made during a meeting between the Center's leadership and Mr. Niyazi Mustafa, Director of the Aden Environment Office, highlighting a collaborative approach between civil society and government authorities.

The comprehensive project will be implemented through a multi-faceted strategy that includes community awareness campaigns, specialized training and capacity-building programs, and direct efforts to safeguard the natural habitats of these vulnerable species.

Dr. Jacqueline Mansour, head of Centre, detailed the project's core objectives. "Our mission is to elevate environmental awareness across all segments of society, from fishermen and youth to women and children," stated Dr. Mansour. "Furthermore, the initiative is designed to bolster the capabilities of local authorities and security agencies in enforcing national legislation and international conventions dedicated to marine protection."

Mr. Niyazi Mustafa expressed his full support for the endeavor, commending the Centre for its critical initiative. He underscored the project's alignment with governmental priorities, stating, "The success of this vital project is tied to the effective activation of the administrative plan for the Al-Azizi Reserve. We are confident that this cooperation will yield significant and positive outcomes for our regional ecosystem."

Emphasizing the broader vision, Dr. Mansour added that the initiative is fundamentally centred on community engagement. "By fostering active participation from local communities and strengthening their cooperation with official bodies, we aim to make a lasting contribution to preserving the region's biodiversity and restoring its ecological balance."
