29th May 2025

The Ruaa Centre for Strategic Studies, Consultations, and Training concluded a training course today, Thursday, titled "Empowering Civil Society Organizations in Aden to Lead Climate Adaptation." The course was held in the khor Maksar District from 25 to 29 May, with support from the Political Development Forum and the German Berghof Foundation.

This course was organized as part of the activities of the "Enhancing Local Authority Capacities and Supporting Stability" project. Its aim is to strengthen the preparedness of local civil society organizations and empower them to play a pivotal role in addressing the challenges of climate change at the community level.

Dr. Jaklin Mansoor Albatani, Head of the Ruaa Centre, emphasized that this course represents a qualitative step in building genuine awareness among civil society organizations regarding the importance of climate change issues. She pointed out that environmental challenges have become a reality requiring effective partnership among all local actors, especially in a city like Aden, which faces direct impacts from climate change.

Albatani added: "At the Ruaa Centre, we believe that knowledge and institutional empowerment is the cornerstone of any sustainable intervention. Through this course, we were keen to provide practical and cognitive tools to help local organizations play an active role in community adaptation and to develop policies that consider environmental justice and serve the interests of the most vulnerable groups."

The course, led by trainers Mr. Abdulraqeeb Al-Akeesh and Ms. Yusr Sadiq, covered several themes related to building the capacities of civil society organizations in Aden to design and implement climate adaptation strategies. This included a focus on analyzing climate risks and their impacts on vital sectors such as water and agriculture, in addition to analyzing community conflicts arising from climate changes in Aden.
