My Identity Initiative
A community initiative launched by the Ruya Center for Strategic Studies, Consulting and Training at the end of December 2019. It is concerned with preserving the southern cultural heritage by defending and introducing historical monuments and landmarks, highlighting the attempts to distort, obliterate and vandalize them, and working to preserve, protect and restore them.
Goals
- Working to raise community awareness of the importance of cultural and natural heritage, especially historical monuments, and to enhance identity.
- Monitoring violations against historical monuments in the south since the 1994 war to this day.
- Coordinating with relevant authorities to provide periodic maintenance and restoration of historical monuments.
- Following up with security agencies to provide the necessary security protection to protect them.
- Preparing specialized studies on antiquities and historical monuments and environmental and geological damage resulting from pollution near archaeological monuments and natural reserves.
- Documenting damage to antiquities and historical monuments during the current conflict and removing random construction from their grounds.
- Listing, documenting, classifying and recording sources of antiquities and historical monuments and linking them to similar national, regional and international records.
- Spreading awareness in visual, audio and print media about the importance of antiquities and historical monuments and their historical value among citizens.
- Building relationships with relevant authorities and civil society organizations (local and international) in order to draw their attention to the violations, obliteration and vandalism suffered by archaeological sites and historical monuments in the south.
