Field Visit to Al-Azizi Island Reveals Sea Turtle Hatchling
Ruaa Centre for Strategic Studies, Consulting and Training conducted a field visit to Al-Azizi Island, headed by Dr Jaklin Mansour Al-Batani, President of the Centre, accompanied by Eng. Faisal Al-Tha’alabi, Chairman of the General Authority for Environmental Protection, to review the progress of the sea turtle camping, monitoring and environmental observation programme on the island.
Ruaa Centre continues to implement the sea turtle camping, monitoring and environmental observation programme on Al-Azizi Island as part of its efforts to protect biodiversity and conserve endangered sea turtles. The programme is ongoing during the holy month of Ramadan.
During the field visit, Dr Al-Batani and Eng. Al-Tha’alabi reviewed the daily monitoring activities carried out by the field team along the island’s coastline, particularly during Ramadan. They also observed the ongoing efforts to document several sea turtles that have recently nested on the island.
The visit also witnessed the hatching of sea turtle eggs, a scene that reflects the importance of the environmental efforts being made to protect these endangered species and preserve their natural habitats.
Ruaa Centre for Strategic Studies, Consulting and Training called for the protection of the marine environment and sea turtles, stressing the importance of restricting visits to the island, particularly during the upcoming Eid Al-Fitr holiday, in order to safeguard nesting sites and ensure the survival of these species in their natural environment.
The programme is implemented with the support of the Global Environment Facility (GEF) and the Small Grants Programme (SGP), in cooperation with the General Authority for Environmental Protection, within a broader environmental partnership aimed at strengthening conservation measures and promoting environmental sustainability.
