Ruaa Centre Concludes Training Course on Implementing Legal Frameworks for the Protection of Marine Life in the Gulf of Aden
Ruaa Centre for Strategic Studies, Consultations, and Training concluded today, Thursday, in cooperation with the Environmental Protection Authority Office in Aden, a training course titled: “From Legal Text to Implementation: Protecting the Environment and Marine Life in the Gulf of Aden.” The course was implemented as part of the project “Save the Sea Turtles in the Gulf of Aden,” supported by the Global Environment Facility (GEF) and the Small Grants Programme (SGP).
The final day featured a review of the key knowledge and skills acquired by participants, including security personnel, environmental protection workers, and activists from environmental institutions and associations. Emphasis was placed on strengthening coordination between official and community entities to ensure effective implementation of environmental legislation and the protection of marine biodiversity.
During the course, trainer Mr. Yasser Ghabir, Director General of Foreign Policy at the Ministry of Water and Environment, delivered both theoretical and practical presentations covering the environmental characteristics of the Gulf of Aden and the importance of its marine biodiversity. He highlighted sea turtles as one of the endangered species and reviewed the national legislative framework governing environmental and marine protection, including the Environmental Protection Law, the Law on the Protection of the Marine Environment from Pollution, and the Law Regulating Fisheries and Marine Resources.
Dr. Jacqueline Mansour Al-Batani, Head of Ruaa Center, affirmed that the course represents a practical step toward transforming legal texts into field procedures that contribute to preserving the marine environment, particularly protecting endangered sea turtles in the Gulf of Aden. She praised participants’ engagement and their commitment to applying the knowledge gained in their professional duties.
For his part, Engineer Niazi Mustafa, Director of the Environmental Protection Authority Office in Aden, stressed the importance of continued partnership and coordination to raise environmental awareness and enforce laws regulating marine environmental protection, helping reduce harmful practices and preserve natural resources for future generations.
The event concluded with the distribution of certificates of appreciation to participants in recognition of their commitment and active participation in the training program. Participants also expressed appreciation for the course content and its role in enhancing their professional capacities, affirming their determination to transfer the knowledge and experience gained to their workplaces to support the protection of the marine environment and marine life in the Gulf of Aden.
