Raising awareness in Khor Omerah about sea turtles' conservation

18th April 2024

Ruaa Centre for Strategic Studies, Consulting and Training organized an awareness lecture on Thursday in Khor Omira, Lahj, as part of a campaign to protect sea turtles in Aden Gulf.  Dr. Jamal Bawzir led the lecture, highlighting the importance of safeguarding sea turtles and their habitats, and the dangers of marine pollution and overfishing.

The campaign included cleaning Khor Amira beach from waste, including plastic, which poses a significant threat to sea turtles. The team and the residents participated in installing directive metal boards on the beach and distributing brochures and posters.  Local residents and NGO representatives attended, praising Ruaa Centre's environmental efforts and pledging future support.

Dr. Jacqueline Al-Batani, director, emphasized sea turtles' crucial role in maintaining marine ecological balance, controlling sea urchin and jellyfish populations, cleaning dead marine plants, and dispersing marine plant seeds.
