The Ruaa Centre team meets with the director of Crater District and installs warning signs to prevent turtle hunting

17th April 2024

The Ruaa Centre's campaign aims to protect the marine environment and raise awareness about preserving biodiversity in the Gulf of Aden. The centre conducts lectures, seminars, clean-up campaigns, installs warning signs and distributes educational materials to promote sea turtle conservation.

Dr. Al-Jaradi expressed full support, emphasizing cooperation among stakeholders to protect sea turtles from extinction.

In Crater's Sira area, Ruaa Centre distributed brochures and posters as well as installing informative signs highlighting sea turtle types, importance, threats and conservation methods, urging citizens to protect them.

Citizens are encouraged to join the campaign, as sea turtles are listed on the IUCN Red List. Yemen's environmental protection law prohibits hunting endangered species, punishable by imprisonment (up to six months) or a $1,000 fine.
